Poem: For My Son
This is another poem written by my grandmother for one of her sons, my dad, for his 21st birthday. I read it and almost wept. Nearing 21 myself, it was almost like hearing her voice speaking to me…
Ben
Tomorrow you will be 21,
a new phase of your life has just begun.
How I’d love to be there with you,
caring, sharing in all you do ~
a day full of ecstasy~
tomorrow filled with expectancy.
Just what does the future hold?
Will you stay within the mold?
Life is so exciting, such a thrill!
Decisions to make ~ dreams fulfill.
You must take your own stand
now that you’ve grown up to be a man.
And because I love you so,
it’s hard for me to let go.
You’ve given me such great joy
but you are no longer my little boy.
